The Mousetrap | December 2017 - January 2018
If, somehow, you haven’t heard of it, The Mousetrap is a play by the internationally adored queen of mystery Agatha Christie (her work is more widely read than Shakespeare’s). It is the longest continuously running show of all time, celebrating its sixtieth anniversary back in 2012. But The Mousetrap is not just a classic; the supremely entertaining murder mystery play is a West End institution and its stupendous success has made it a fundamental part of the experience of visiting or living in London.
The story takes place in the Great Hall of Monkswell Manor, recently converted to a guesthouse by Mollie and Giles Ralston. When a snow storm hits and the Ralstons and their guests are snowed in, they come together to read the newspaper and discover that a woman has been murdered in London. But is the perpetrator of this horrible crime closer than they think?
A testament to Christie’s extraordinary talent, The Mousetrap sparks people’s imaginations within minutes, with the action inviting audiences to suspect everyone and the plot so cunningly contrived that it leaves people guessing until the very end.
The Mousetrap is an indelible part of theatre history and has now been playing at London’s impressive St Martin’s Theatre for over forty years. It is not to be missed.
